How to sway test and why?
The sway test is in my opinion one of the easiest methods of muscle testing. Muscle testing is also known as Applied Kinesiology, “which is the use of manual muscle testing to evaluate body function through the dynamics of the musculoskeletal system.” per the International College of Applied Kinesiology. It is a way to access the wisdom inherent in the body or unconscious mind and the subconscious mind. Many alternative physicians use it to determine underlying causes of illness.
Sway testing is similar to muscle testing but easier because we can do it alone, without another person or practitioner. The more we practice and gain certainty with our body movements, the better we become at noticing subtle energy and even sharpen our intuition. We can also access the higher mind, or collective consciousness using this technique.
How to sway test?
The method is simple:
Stand and become as relaxed as possible.
Take a few deep breaths, imagine being “grounded” and call in all of your own energy.
Clear your mind - this is not a mental practice and no thoughts are required except to ask questions
Get a “baseline” by asking yourself a question or making a statement that is a YES for you.
Relax and see which way your body moves. Forward motion is a YES, backward motion is a NO.
Once you establish this baseline you can begin asking yes or no questions! It is very similar to dowsing but your body is the pendulum. I believe the same mechanisms are at work. Our bodies have a natural tendency to lean in to things we feel positive about and to lean away from things we don’t prefer. For example, think about a conversation with another person. If they are saying things you agree with or that interest you, it is natural to lean into the conversation space. But by the same token, if you are disinterested or in disagreement, you might sit back and cross your arms. This process makes use of this natural body motion with deliberate attention to the motion as we ask questions.
Sometimes when getting started is is good to have someone else watch closely to see what the initial response to the question is. But with time and practice, you will be able to recognize your body's motions immediately.
If you have problems using this technique, there may be a few ways to troubleshoot.
You may be dehydrated. Energy work requires hydration - so drink some good water and try again.
You may be crossed in your polarity or brain signals. Tapping, walking with attention to crossing left over right or doing knee raises crossing the body left to right and right to left can help to re-set this.
You may be stressed, depressed or angry - low frequency emotions and vibrations can stop the process. Getting relaxed, doing a quick meditation or taking a nap can reset your point of attraction to a calm level and this is needed for the process to be effective.
You’re not certain it works. Remind yourself that there is not right or wrong, no one is judging you. Simply play with the technique and experiment for yourself.
Why use the sway test?
Sway testing has many practical uses for accessing the wisdom of your body. It is not, however a tool for diagnosing disease or prescribing medications. Seek a health professional for that. It is also not advisable to ask questions about others unless you have their permission. You can use it to:
Check if you need a particular vitamin or supplement and how much to take
Evaluate a food for hidden allergens (Is it in my highest and best good to consume this food? Does this food contain hidden allergens?)
Practice the Emotion Code and Body Code - two very powerful modalities for finding underlying emotional causes of discomfort, mentally, physically and emotionally.
Using this technique with the Emotion Code has brought me so much healing, self-awareness and insight. I highly recommend it to anyone on a journey of self-healing and holistic wellness.
